Dear
Congressman,
Re: G20
Are you
watching news coverage of the G20? There’s a powerful and growing resistance to
the world-wide capitalist economy. The simple truth of the matter is that the
system is proving faulty for anyone except the very few. The hegemony of money
is at the root of every one of our problems in the world—including, of course,
the one that threatens our planet itself: climate change. It’s all about the
very few, very wealthy, very influential, very ruthless people enriching
themselves and protecting their own interests at the cost of the rest of the
human species.
Change
must come, and change will come. I cling to the hope, with increasing doubt,
that it will not be violent; that it will not come at the cost of too many
human lives. That reason and compassion will finally prevail over greed and
self interest.
What do
you think?
Incidentally,
I can’t help but be amused by the much-touted meeting of the fox and the
rooster. Will fur or feathers fly? I’m betting, uncomfortably, on the fox.
A final
note, re: Trump’s speech in Warsaw. I think he fancies himself as a Churchill—or
at least wants to project that image. He has clearly practiced the stern look
and the jutting jaw in the bathroom mirror. Unfortunately, with Trump, the
image comes off looking like a mockery.
Respectfully,
Peter
Clothier, Ph.D.
