Congressman,
Re:
Embarrassment
It’s an
embarrassment. It’s enough of an embarrassment to have a president who goes out
there into the world pretending to be strong when everyone knows he’s nothing
more than a jellyfish. He lives underwater. He’s soft and vulnerable. So he
stings. From beneath.
It’s
still more of an embarrassment to have a president who goes out there and lies
in front of the world. Transparent, thoughtless, shameless lies. Everyone knows
he lies. He lies all the time, reflexively. How can any one else trust him?
They smile politely. They shake his hand. But they don’t trust him. Why should
they?
Why
should they trust a man who responds to the shooting death of twenty-six of his
innocent citizens in his country, in a church, one Sunday morning, praying, by
asserting that “this is not about guns”? In front of the world. By saying,
“this is not the right time” to talk about the incontrovertible fact that we’re
awash in guns in this country—and not only hand guns, not only guns used for
hunting and sport, but military-style assault rifles, designed exclusively to
cause human deaths, as many as possible, and available to virtually anyone who
wants one?
It’s an
embarrassment to have this man out there in the world, whose mind is
demonstrably so far removed from reality and truth. To have a man of this kind
go out there and represent our country to the world.
I want to
know, Congressman, how you can continue to support a man of this kind, in the
office that he holds, without expressing one murmur of dissent, disagreement or
disapproval?

Peter
Clothier, Ph.D.
