Dear
Congressman,
Re: Tax plan
I have been reading further about the Republican tax plan and
have found no reason to change my mind: it benefits primarily the already
wealthy and offers insultingly small crumbs to the middle class and the poor (example:
the $300 deduction it allows for care for family members other than children—i.e.,
the elderly. $300! The generosity astounds!) Meanwhile, the top one percenters,
including the president himself and his family, make off like bandits. It’s
quite simply shameful.
Please take
note of the final paragraph in today’s New York Times editorial:
“No Republican who cares about fairness,
economic sense and the financial health of the government can support with a
clear conscience this shameless wealth transfer.”
To which I say, Amen. When the bill comes up
for a vote in the House, vote NO, in the interest of your constituents.
Respectfully,
Peter Clothier, Ph.D.
